Billy Ray McClain, age 44, of Waynesboro was arrested on Sunday, March 27th on one charge of robbery and one charge of theft of property. The report states that McClain and another individual went to the home of Kevin Derhake on Clifton Turnpike to look a gun that Derhake had posted for sale on social media. When McClain got out of his vehicle, he allegedly confronted Derhake and said that the gun belonged to him, not Derhake. He allegedly grabbed the gun from Derhake, got back into his truck, and left with the gun. McClain was booked into the Wayne County Jail on $105,000.00 bond.

 

     As a result of the same incident, Byron David Skelton, age 40, of Waynesboro was arrested on Monday, March 28th. According to the report, Skelton was the one who originally saw Derhake’s gun advertised for sale on social media, and had messaged Derhake that he would buy the gun. Skelton allegedly pulled up at Derhake’s home first, with McClain following in his vehicle. Skelton was charged with one count of criminal responsibility for facilitation of a felony, and was booked into the Wayne County Jail on $25,000.00 bond.

 

     In an unrelated incident, David Dewayne Banks, age 40, of Clifton, was arrested on Monday, March 28th after allegedly admitting to stealing a wallet belonging to Louise Staggs. Banks also allegedly admitted to using Staggs’ credit cards at various places in Wayne County, accumulating a total charge of $547.10. Banks was charged with one count of theft over $500, and booked into the Wayne County Jail on $20,000.00 bond.

 

     Donald Eugene Phillips, age 45, of Gurley, AL was arrested on Tuesday, March 29th on a capias issued by the Wayne County Grand Jury, with indictments being handed down for charges of sale of schedule II narcotics, sale of schedule III narcotics, and sale of schedule IV narcotics. He was booked into the Wayne County Jail on $45,000.00 bond.

 

     Garvis Glen Smotherman, age 52, of Waynesboro was arrested on Thursday, March 31st and charged with one count of driving on revoked license, 5th offense. According to the police report, Smotherman was observed operating a motor vehicle on Morrow Street in Waynesboro, where he was arrested by Officer Jacob Davis. Smotherman was booked into the Wayne County Jail on $12,500.00 bond.

 

     Johnny Dewayne Wright, age 50, of Collinwood was arrested by THP Officer Jeff Webb on Thursday, March 31st. Trooper Webb’s report states that he observed Wright operating an ATV on Washington Street in Collinwood. When Trooper Webb stopped Wright on the ATV, Wright allegedly was unsteady on his feet when he got off the ATV, and Webb noticed the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Wright. Wright was also allegedly found to be in possession of a bag of seeds believed to be marijuana seeds. He was charged with being a habitual traffic offender, DUI 5th offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is currently being held in the Wayne County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.

 

     Jose Luis Mendoza, age 25, of Waynesboro was arrested on Friday, April 1st on one charge of aggravated domestic assault. According to the report, Mendoza’s wife Lacey came to the Waynesboro Police Department and gave a signed statement stating that her husband physically assaulted her by hitting her with a belt, grabbing her around the neck, and threatening her with a knife. Mendoza’s wife allegedly had marks on her body reflecting a physical assault. Mendoza was booked into the Wayne County Jail on $50,000.00 bond.

 

     Nicole Lynn Means, age 29, of Manchester, TN was arrested on Sunday, April 3rd and charged with one count of introduction of contraband into a penal institution. The report states that Means was visiting prison inmate Patrick Smeltzer at CCA in Clifton, where she passed a taped package to Smeltzer containing cocaine, marijuana, and methamphetamine. Means was booked into the Wayne County Jail on $50,000.00 bond.

 

    Kenneth Andrew Box, age 19, of Cypress Inn was arrested on Wednesday, April 6th on a charge of felony evading arrest in a motor vehicle. According to the report, Box was a passenger in a motor vehicle that was involved in a traffic stop by Deputy Dale Palmer. As Deputy Palmer was attempting to initiate the traffic stop, all of the passengers in the vehicle allegedly fled on foot. The report states that as Deputy Palmer apprehended one of the individuals and was attempting to place him in handcuffs, Box jumped back into the vehicle and fled the scene. Box was booked into the Wayne County Jail on $25,000.00 bond.

 

     Angelette Gail Dobbins, age 37, of Nashville, TN was arrested on Sunday, April 10th at CCA Correctional Institution in Clifton. The report states that Inv. Steve Wilson of the Clifton Police Department arrested Dobbins on a charge of introduction of contraband into a penal facility. Dobbins allegedly concealed four cell phones, a phone charger, two large packs of tobacco, and two packs of rolling papers in a fast food sack, and deposited the food sack into a trash can at the front door of CCA. Dobbins allegedly had previously arranged the drop of the contraband to be retrieved by an inmate at the prison. She was captured on video as she deposited the contraband into the trash can, and was also observed by two correctional officers as she made the drop. Dobbins was booked into the Wayne County Jail on $75,000.00 bond.
