Wayne County News Reports:

On Saturday, May 10, 2014 Sgt. Walter Smith was dispatched to Heard Drive in Collinwood in regards to a possible forest fire.  While walking around the fire, he noticed several county road signs piled up behind an old barn.  After inspecting them and finding the majority of them to be new or fairly new, they were gathered up and Mike Ray transported them back to the Sheriff’s office.

Although sign stealing may seem like a harmless prank to a young person, it can have fatal consequences.  In Tampa, Fl in 1996 3 young men were entering an intersection in a white Camaro when they were struck and killed by a tractor trailer truck.  The stop sign had been removed and the four pranksters, admittedly stealing other signs and presumably at fault, were charged with 3 counts of manslaughter by culpable negligence and one count of grand theft.
